What’s in a name?
Why Marigold & Iris?
I’d love to tell you!
Last fall, I experienced a heterotopic pregnancy, meaning twins - one in the uterus, and one in a fallopian tube. Sadly, this type of pregnancy typically leads to loss, and our twins could not have survived. My husband and I decided to name our babies Marigold and Micah Iris. These names hold great meaning to us and felt inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Marigolds are often given to those who are experiencing grief. Their bright colors are thought to cheer up those who are struggling. They are symbols of joy and resilience. The iris is a symbol of hope, faith, and courage. Since they bloom in the spring, they remind us of the beauty of new beginnings. Both marigolds and irises can be connected to the faith and sorrows of Mary, the Mother of God.
I chose to name my private practice Marigold & Iris to honor my sweet twins. Though I never held them in my arms, they have changed who I am as a person and taught me about the depth of love. I have learned just how much the heart can hurt, while also growing in empathy and compassion for others experiencing often silent struggles, such as mental illness, infertility, grief, or chronic pain. My babies have expanded my ability to love and support others. Although I can no longer provide for them, I can honor and remember them as I walk with others through heartache, anxiety, and depression.
